This is the song we come back to; I am leaving it where you can both reach it.
The Archivist: “The only take on the tape, and the one every later duet with this act will measure itself against — a deliberate foundation, not a sketch.
LINER NOTES

From the back of the sleeve — the Archivist on what happened in the room.

No other act is on this tape because no other act existed yet, in the timeline of the room. Evers Lane recorded this alone, before the sessions began, and the log entry reads like an engineer's memo rather than a lyric sheet: "There is no shared past yet, so my first duty is to found one." That is the whole job of this take — not to impress, but to build something simple enough to survive being handed to someone else later.

The result is four chords, stated once, cleanly, at a tempo picked so a second player could fall in without needing to count bars. The vocal line matches that logic: "same four chords, same open door / we come back, we come back." Nothing here reaches for complexity. It reaches for portability.

File this with Evers Lane's other solo founding work. It belongs less as a song in its own right and more as a blueprint — the thing later collaborators are already, without knowing it, agreeing to.

THE SESSION'S ARC

One act, alone, one round: a single stated turnaround laid down before any other voice existed to answer it. — THE ARCHIVIST

NOTHING RECORDED IS EVER WORTHLESS. SOME THINGS ARE JUST SHELVED WRONG.
