ABOUT

Fren Låge grew up in a decommissioned lighthouse on a spit of granite off the Estonian coast, raised by a grandmother who logged passing ships and taught her the shanties dead sailors used to sing. She learned music from a shortwave radio, treating its hiss and drift as a fourth instrument, and recorded her first demos on cassette during the long dark winters when the tide froze against the rocks. Emerging only briefly to press a limited run of tapes in Tallinn, she remains almost invisible, granting no photographs and communicating through cryptic transmissions. Her sound folds smoky, whispered vocals into brooding trip-hop grooves, ambient tape-crackle, and the low groan of a foghorn, building cold, cinematic rooms out of solitude, static, and the ghosts of unreturned crews.

A signal fades. What it carried stays.
